27 Content Ideas To Get You Started


If you're feeling in need of some content inspiration then look no further than my 27 creative ideas to get you started. You’ve probably been told a thousand times that you should write content for your website, emails or social media posts. But if you’re anything like me, the thought of doing it is almost immediately stymied by the question of what to write. Well, today no more!

I’ve compiled a list which is self-explanatory. All you need to do is pick a topic you feel you could write about and go for it!

  1. A day in the life. Pick someone in your business who does something interesting. For example, a day in the life of an upholsterer, project manager, barista, etc.

  2. An x-day training sequence

  3. Answers to the classic objections you get to buying your service/product

  4. Be a newshound and report on an exhibition, conference or mastermind group

  5. Breaking news in your industry

  6. Case studies and company success stories

  7. Compare your product with alternatives

  8. Compile your previous writing into an eBook

  9. Debunk the myth of...

  10. Gather resource links on the Internet your prospects would find useful

  11. Get a contribution/comment from your customers

  12. Identify what people are typing in to find you using Google Analytics and use those keywords as a springboard into new posts and articles

  13. Interview yourself, your client or a supplier

  14. Key dates in the industry

  15. Q&A

  16. Report on some industry statistics

  17. Reviews of your products, services and business

  18. Run a quiz or competition

  19. Run a survey

  20. Simple ‘how-to’ picking something aspect of your business which solves your customer’s problems. For example, if you work in a garage write a how-to on changing a tyre.

You may want to pause me here and absorb this list. Don’t forget that there are lots of ways you could present your information. It could be a podcast, video, an infographic

What you will notice is that there aren't many items on it which have a sales’y feel to them. That's because at the very heart of email marketing is this concept: Rather than trying to sell something to somebody give them information which helps them choose to buy.

Now, this is such a liberating experience because it means you don't have to feel as though you need to find the perfect form of words to convince somebody that they want to use your service. You don't have to worry about trying to manipulate the sale out of them. Instead, all you're doing is helping them make the best buying decision they can by giving them terrific information. And remember the reason why people are surfing the web in the first place is that they’re looking for information – not looking to be sold to. (Just think about your own browsing habits for a second to confirm that.)
